Well, you can see I totally skipped April! Sorry about that…life was way too busy! Can you believe we only have 16 more days together!! What’s going on during those days:
May 3: Probability Test
May 9th/10th: Geometry Test
May 15th: Field Day
May 20th: 1st/5th Exams
May 21st: 2nd/6th Exams and Awards Day
Boy am I glad to say that! I feel like with ITBS testing, Unit 3 Test and re-tests, and Performance Tasks…we were in February and Unit 3 FOREVER!! With March comes our new unit Unit 4: Inferences! This unit, we take a look at DATA, data, and more DaTa!! We have started this week with Measures of Center (mean, median, and mode). We will get into Box-and-Whisker Plots a little later this week and then move onto measure of variations, making predictions, and inferences with data. In a 7th graders words…we will be looking at a lot of graphs, charts, and samples of information. This should be a rather fun, or different, unit because a lot of times as long as a you can SUPPORT your choice…you can pick any choice! 🙂 This is a little different than what we are used to in MATH!
A few things:
Check IC for test grades within the next day or two! If your student failed…he or she will have a note and study guide for you to sign! (I will be passing them out tomorrow 2-26!)
We ALWAYS need tissues and welcome extra boxes in our classrooms!
If you are still reading…have your child see me for a surprise for checking my website!! 🙂
Have a great week!!!
We are almost to the wrapping up stages of Unit 3. We are finishing and turning in our Wumps characters today. These characters showed us scale factors, proportions, and similar figures! At the end of this week, we will be doing our performance task which will involve us selling the latest app to Zynga! 🙂
Next, week is pretty busy with ITBS testing and conferences. If you would like to schedule a conference, please contact one of your students teachers. Though we will be busy, I am planning on giving the Unit 3 Test on Friday February 8th. You can look for a study guide in the middle of the week!
We have jumped into Unit 3- Ratios and Proportions with both feet! This is mostly a review from 6th grade for most students! We will be in this unit for about 2 more weeks! You can expect a test near the end of the month!
I am planning on giving a “Friday Quiz” each Friday over what we have covered in class each week! This may not ALWAYS happen…but you can plan on it more often than not! I will annouunce to the students early enough to study!
See ya soon!
The tenetative plan for the remainder of the semester (before Christmas break) looks like this:
-Finishing Unit 2 Part 2 Test (12/5-12/6)
-Starting Inequalities (12/7)
-Practicing Inequalities (12/10-12/12)
-Unit 2 Part 3 Test (12/13)
-Study for Exams (12/14)
First of all, thank you for your patience as I got back into the swing of things at school. I enjoyed meeting some of you at the conferences and look foward to meeting the rest throughout the year. Your students have been wonderful welcoming me back to school!
Now, what’s going in our classroom. We are in the middle of Unit 2 which is about expressions and equations. (Expressions look like this: 2m+ 9; when m = 12. Equations look like this: 2x + 9 = 21.) This week we are working on two step equations with whole numbers and rational numbers (fractions and decimals). We will have PART 2 of the Unit 2 Test on TUESDAY DECEMBER 4. You can expect a study guide/review on Friday.
The last part of Unit 2 will be inequalities. This is very similar to equations so I hope that we all catch on quick! 🙂 This will take us to the end of the unit and the final exam on the 17th/18th.
Parents and Students!
I will get a chance soon to update my website since I have been out! Give me a little but to get my head above water! Thank you for understanding!
A quick note: You should have received an e-mail to sign up for the upcoming conferences! Please check your e-mail and sign up so that we can meet and discuss your child’s progress!
We kicked off the new year in the middle of Unit 3, Stretching and Shrinking! We have been doing many activities in class such as Olympic Math, Shadow Math, and Wumps. Ask your student to see some of his or her best work! We are finishing up this unit with our Performance Task this week. With some schedule changes our test has been moved to Monday 1/23. Your students have a completed study guide to look over!
We will begin Unit 4- Moving Straight Ahead next week. This unit focuses on equations and variables!
Have a wonderful weekend!
As many of you heard in your conference, the next unit in our class is difficult for the students to grasp. With that being said, I am trying this week to build some groundwork that we can relate back to throughout the unit. We are watching Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! Once we finish the movie, we will be making several calculations of different parts of the movie. I am looking forward to seeing the relationships the students will see!
We will continue Unit 3, Stretching and Shrinking, after Thanksgiving Break!
Next Week News:
Monday: Halloween Math 🙂
Tuesday/Wednesday: Review for Accentuate the Negative Test
Thursday: Accentuate the Negative Test
Please make sure you STUDY!!!
Since the last time I posted…
We have been going crazy in the land of integers! I have stressed to the students how important it is for them to understand how to work with integers thus, we have been practicing a lot! This week we introduced fractions to the world of integers and will hang out here for a while! We do have a check up this Friday. Students should bring home a study sheet on Thursday! As the title says, (Accentuate the Negative), we will be working with integers (fractions, decimals, problem solving, etc…) until the end of the month! You can expect a test around the end of October or beginning of November. I will let you know a more specific date when the time approaches! Happy Integers!! 🙂
We are quizzing over multiplying and dividing integers TOMORROW! We had a quick “show what you know” pre-quiz today and I feel like we are ALL going to be very successful tomorrow. We will move into combining integers (adding and subtracting integers) on Monday.
Challenge your students to a game of Integers Speed!! I’d love to hear about your game!!
For those still working on Variables and Patterns- Please continue to study hard and get those review sheets in before October 4th!!
Students/Parents- have your student tell me you checked my webpage and they will get a surprise! 🙂
We have had a great start to out Accentuate the Negative Unit. Remember to check the Math Units tab to see what we are doing in each unit. We will be working on multiplying and dividing integers next week! Students, challenge your parents to a game of Integer Speed next week!
Parents should have signed the performance task and unit test grades for Variables and Patterns this week! Thank you for those who did! 🙂
Please be on the look out for IMPROVED grades from your child next week on the Unit Test. We are implementing some review and re-assessment for this unit into our classes next week!
For those students that are exceeding, we will be working on some problem solving activities do deepen their understanding of Rational Numbers.
I look forward to a productive and fun week next week! Happy Friday and have a super weekend!
We are finishing up our Variables and Patterns Unit today with a performance task, Bridges! We will be starting Accentuate the Negative on Monday with a pre-test and vocabulary! I will be posting the test grades and performance task grades for this unit and the beginning of next week! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

DON’T FORGET the S! 🙂
We are about to wrap up our Variables and Patterns Unit. You should receive a study guide for the test on Monday and I plan to have the Unit Test on Wednesday. We will have 2 days in class to study but you will need to study at home! Parents, please sign your student’s study guide on Monday night! Also, IC is updated with grades. Please let me know if you have any questions! I hope you have a fabulous weekend!
We are in the middle of our graphing unit. This unit is teaching us how one variable affects another. We are looking at tables and graphs to analyze the data we are given. This is information that will help us tremendously on our science fair projects. This week, we are practicing analyzing and looking at different graphs. We will have a “Check-Up” on Friday!
At this point you should know:
-what an independent variable is and where it goes on a graph
-what a dependent variable is and where it goes on a graph
-why the scale is important and the two factors your should always remember when making a scale
Also–Don’t forget: turing words into algebraic expressions and “Plug it in, Plug it in!”
How many Jumping Jacks can you do in 2 minutes??
This week/unit we are looking at tables, graphs, and equations. We will be formulating our own experiments as well as analyzing data that is given to us. We will be able to fluidly move from tables to graphs, to equations and answer questions along the way!
Test over Coordinate Plane Unit!
Please don’t forget to have all of your centers completed by TOMORROW- 8/16! Also, we have a TEST on Tuesday, 8/16! Study your notes!!
