Zaxby’s Night for WJMS – Tuesday, May 14th
WJMS has a wonderful fund raising opportunity through Zax-by’s that will earn students and teachers free food as well as provide much needed funds to help WJMS purchase a new sound system for the gym.
All you need to do is eat at the Highway 53 / Braselton loca-tion between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14th. A percentage of the sales will be given directly to WJMS. The more people that participate, the more money WJMS will earn. Be sure to tell your family, friends, and neighbors.
In addition, students will have an opportunity to demonstrate their drawing skills by draw-ing a picture of Zaxby’s mascot, LZ. Zaxby’s will then select two winners from each grade level, and those students will win a free meal.

Chorus News
The WJMS Choruses will have their final performances of the year tonight. The sixth grade chorus will perform at 6:30 p.m. (Call time is 6:00 p.m.) The seventh grade chorus will also perform on May 13th at 7:30 p.m. (Call time is 7:15 p.m.) The eighth grade chorus will perform the following evening, Tuesday, May 14th, at 6:30 p.m. (Call time is 6:00 p.m.) All concerts will take place at the JCCHS auditorium and are free and open to the public. Songs include hits by Phillip Phillips, Matisyahu, Swedish House Mafia, and others. Come out and hear us make music!

Schedule for Last Days of School
Week of May 13th through May 17th – Connections finals during normal connection classes
May 20th – Final exams from 8:15 until 10:20 a.m.
– 6th grade awards from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
– CRCT retakes for 8th grade students only at 1:00 p.m.
May 21st – Final exams from 8:15 a.m. until 10:20 a.m.
– 7th grade awards from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Yearbooks for Sale
Yearbooks are available for purchase for $35. Please see Ms. Miller in the media center for more information. There are still over a hundred available for purchase.
Field Days
Our field days will be held later this month. Sixth grade field day will be on May 14th, seventh grade field day will be on May 15th, and eighth grade field day will be on May 16th. Be sure to bring money to buy concessions from FCCLA.
Reminder about Medications
All student medication in the nurse’s office will be disposed of if not picked up by a parent before the last day of school.
Students may NOT carry medication home on the bus.

Football News
Spring football practice began on Wednesday, May 1st from 3:50 until 6:00 p.m. All boys that will be in the eighth grade next year that would like to play football are required to have a current physical on file at WJMS, and the physi-cal must be valid through May 17th. Spring practice will end on May 15th. The annual red and black game will be held at the high school on Thursday, May 16th. WJMS will play at 6:00 p.m. The varsity game will follow.
Media Center Books
All books should have been returned to the WJMS Media Center on Friday, May 10th. If you still have books checked out, please return them as soon as possible.

CRCT
Parents, please make sure your child gets enough sleep and has a healthy breakfast in order to do their best on the CRCT. It’s important for students to arrive at school on time during testing days.
Students, you may underline and make marks on your test booklet to help you while you work, but only the answers on your answer sheet will be scored. Make sure you review your answers when you have finished a section. Try to stay calm during the test. This is a chance for you to show all that you have learned this year.

Annual WJMS 8th Grade Dance
Eighth grade students will have the annual dance to celebrate the end of the year as well as the end of their middle school career on Friday, May 3rd from 6:00-8:30 p.m. in the WJMS cafeteria. This is a change in the date that was originally sent home. Students were given information about the dance from their science teacher on March 21st. Science teachers are currently selling tickets. Please let your child’s science teacher know if you have any questions.
Donations Needed for PTO Sidewalk Sale
Our PTO will be having a sidewalk sale at West Jackson Primary School from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 20th and 21st. We are currently ac-cepting donations of gently used items. If you would like to donate any items, please bring them to the donation bins at the side of WJMS under-neath the breezeway. Thank you so much for your help!
Football Cheerleading
Football cheerleading try-outs are tentatively set for May 8th – 10th. A current physical is required before trying out.

Summer Camp Opportunities
The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education is offering a great deal of summer camps. They include robotics camp, aviation camp, creative writing camp, even a videogame design camp. Please visit http://www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/ppd/summer-academy#courses.
There are also camps at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville. They have the usual camps like basketball and football camp, but they also offer a hiking camp and a duct tape crafts camp. CRCT Information…

Well it’s that time of year again, CRCT !!   Here are the dates for the testing..  April 17th and 18th, and April 23-25.  Testing will end each day around 11:30-12:00.   Please make sure that your child gets lots of sleep and eats a good breakfast on these days !  Also, they need to have 2,  #2 pencils each day.  Students will not be allowed to use mechanical pencils.

Also, if possible, we would love for you to bring in water and snacks for your child’s homeroom class.  The school will not be providing a snack for everyone.  Most homerooms have about 27 to 30 students in them.

Social Studies Quiz

My class will  have a quiz over Latin American geography on Thursday, March 28th.  This will count as a summative grade so your child needs to STUDY !!  The best information to study is the questions from the CRCT booklet.

Our PTO will be having a sidewalk sale at West Jackson Primary School from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 20th and 21st. We are currently accepting donations of gently used items such as clothing, books, toys, and other household items. If you would like to donate any items, please bring them to the donation bins at the side of WJMS underneath the breezeway. (Signs are clearly posted to guide you to the donation collection area.) Funds raised will help meet classroom needs at our school.
