Solar Eclipse Update

WJES Communication about Eclipse:
In light of the heightened sense of concern about safely viewing the Solar Eclipse, Jackson County Schools has revised the plan for Eclipse viewing on August 21, 2017. A full story can be seen here.  Please note the following:
  • Due to safety concerns, we will no longer take students outside to view the eclipse, but we will create a remarkable experience by watching live streaming of the event by NASA and launching a high altitude balloon prior to the eclipse that will provide footage of the eclipse.
    • We will still dismiss elementary students at 3:15 p.m. By delaying dismissal, we will ensure that all students are safe during the portion of the eclipse that viewers are most inclined to attempt to view unsafely.
  • Based on many glasses being recalled, JCSS will not distribute viewing glasses to students, faculty, or parents as originally planned.
  • If parents/guardians would prefer to view the eclipse with their child/children, they may check students out, preferably before 11:30 a.m. We will count these absences as being “excused.”
Thank you for your understanding and support!
