Spring Special Olympics is March 25th. These events are a lot of fun for students and spectators. I hope all parents can attend. The events will be held at EJCHS on the football field. I will be sending an order form for t-shirts. They are $10 each. The order form will have a description of the shirts.
We are planning an end of the year cook-out. Information will be sent closer to the event.
This is a busy month. We are finishing up the GAA activities and beginning to get IEP’s ogether to be sure all is set for your child next school year. Please check your child’s agenda nightly for info about meetings, homework assignments, etc.
Spelling tests are weekly. Some students are not studying regularly and it shows at the end of the week. Please help your child review their words nightly.
There will be a Chili Cook Off Tuesday, March 18th at EJMS. Please come out and vote for your favorite CHILI. There will be sample cups at each pot of chili for you to sample.
Remember that SPRING BREAK is coming fast. It will be March 31-April 4.
The PTSO night will be February 11, 2014 @ 6:00. There will be a Chili Cook Off and a Gift Basket Raffle. Each hallway has been asked to put together a basket for the raffle. The items needed for our basket are: board games, card games, snack foods, movie tickets, outdoorgames (frisbee, badminton,etc.), unopened family movies, etc. If you can donate any of these items, please send them to school with your child. If you would prefer to send a monetary donation for our hallway to purchase items, that would be greatly appreciated.
Wegivebooks.com is an awesome reading program for your child. It has a variety of level books that your child can read aloud to you and your family or silently to themselves. Most of these books have an AR test that can be taken at school.
Please have your child practice math skills on IXL.com. IXL covers many skills and rewards the student when the skill is completed.

All parents are encouraged to complete a parent survey provided by the Georgia Department of Education. Survey results will be used to calculate the School Climate Star Rating, which is part of the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). The survey has 20 questions and should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete.
You will be able to complete the survey using a computer, smartphone, or iPad – if you do not have access to the Internet, please contact your child’s school to make arrangements to complete the survey in the media center or computer lab.

Special Olympics (basketbll) is Friday (Dec. 5). We will begin the ceremont at 9:30 am at EJCCHS . We will be in the gym competeing for first place, You are welcome to attend and cheer us on.
December is an exciting month. We will be doing a lot of festive activities.
We are currently learning some new math skills. The kids love new stuff and even welcome a challenge. My sixth graders are learning to solve for X. The seventh graders are learning to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.
I got a copy of the Solar System book yesterday. It is really nice. The additional copies will be sent next week. I know you are excited about getting your copy. The kids were very proud of their work and the final product. I am very proud of them and the hard work they put into the book.

We are completing our planet book. We are finishing the final touches and will be ready to send it to the publisher by the 18th. The books should be bound and ready to be enjoyed by Christmas. I am hoping everyone will put in an order for their own copy.
CBI trips will be filled with job skills. We went to Ingles in Commerce a week ago and really had a blast. The folks at Ingles did a remarkable job with my kids. They showed them jobs that would be an option for them. I believe the kids enjoyed the interaction and are looking forward to returning. THANK YOU to Matt and all employees!!!
We will be going to Quality Foods this month.
I will be scheduling Parent Conferences over the next week or so. I hope to meet all of my parents and give them a chance to see what their kids have been up to.

Moon Phases- All students are bringing home a Moon Phase sheet in their agendas. Beginning October 1st, students are to document the moon phase nightly.
There is a “cheat” sheet for them and the parents to use that may help to identify them better.
Students will have spelling words this week. I have increased the number of words each week. If a student misses words, they will be given those words again, plus some new ones.
Continue to read 20 miinutes each night. I will attach a sign off sheet for each night beginning October 1st.
We will be practicing bowling for Special Olympics all month. The kids seem to enjoy it.

Read aloud for at least twenty minutes each night. Be ready to give a summary of your story on Friday.
6th grade- Unit on The Moon Phase. All students will be asked to keep a moon chart for the month of October.
7th grade- Unit on Biomes- Students will create a Biome book.
CBI trips have been reduced to twice a month. I will be sending a CBI calendar home for the month of October. The skills taught during these trips are budgeting, etiquette, comparison shopping, learning what community services are available, etc. I will include the goals to be achieved on the calendar.
GO folders were sent home this week. Items were placed in the folders, some for parents to keep and 2 forms to fill out and return to school. These folders will be sent home each week. Be sure to check for these folders in your child’s backpack.
Tomorrow (9/20) is College day. Wear your college team wear and show your support of your favorite college team. GO DAWGS!!!
