WJMS has a wonderful fund raising opportunity through Zaxby’s that will earn students and teachers free food as well as provide much needed funds to help WJMS purchase a new sound system for the gym.
All you need to do is eat at the Highway 53 / Braselton loca-tion between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14th. A percentage of the sales will be given directly to WJMS. The more people that participate, the more money WJMS will earn. Be sure to tell your family, friends, and neighbors.
In addition, students will have an opportunity to demonstrate their drawing skills by draw-ing a picture of Zaxby’s mascot, LZ. Zaxby’s will then select two winners from each grade level, and those students will win a free meal.
We will be ordering t-shirts for Field Day this year. Field Day is on May 14th, and all shirts have to be prepaid before ordering. Orders will be taken until Friday, April 26. They are $6 per shirt. Your child should have received an order form yesterday that should be completed and turned in with the money by Friday if they would like a shirt.
If you are able to donate snacks and/or bottles water for our class during CRCT, please send those in at the beginning of this week. Thanks for your help with this!
In class, we have been reviewing material that we’ve covered this year in ELA and SS. There are some things that students can be doing at home as well. We are using the Reader’s Journey book in ELA. It has practice tests at the end of each unit, and there are 6 units. Everyone should have completed through unit 4 so far. We will be going over the answers to each unit, so they can use the correct answers to study. We went over unit 1 yesterday, and we will be going over unit 2 today in class. In SS, we are using the CRCT Test Prep book. Each student in the class has this book. There is a practice test at the end, and we will be working on that during our bellwork in class each day. They will get the correct answers and can use that to study. Study Island is also a great resource to use for practice questions.
We just started a Latin America history timeline today in class. The timeline must include 10 events from Latin America’s history in chronological order. Each event should have a description of the event and why it’s important to the history of Latin America. This will be due Friday, March 29.
We are currently studying Latin America geography in social studies. We will be having a quiz on Friday over this information. It will include locating political and physical features on a map, environmental issues, climate, language, religion, standard of living, and literacy rate in Latin America.
In language arts, we are currently making flip books of concepts we have covered throughout the year with reading and language standards. This book will be completed before spring break, and we will be working on it in class. This will be a good study tool for the CRCT.
Here is the link for a survey that was created to see how the Jackson County community would like to go about saving money for the system. Please complete the survey at your convenience.
We started working on an Australia project yesterday, and everyone has already started working on it in class. We will be spending some class time each day on the project, but some if it may need to be done at home as well. This project is due on Monday, March 4. The Australia test will be on Tuesday, March 5. I will be giving out the study guide tomorrow in class, and I will also post it on my website.
